I will have to check it out. Peter was always my favoritre member. I myself haven`t listened to the podcasts since about 2007. So looking forward to catching up with Comicgeekspeak
Your review prompted me to go out and get All-New X-Men #1 and Thor, God of Thunder #1. Both were fantastic. Thor especially so. Just freaking gorgeous with an interesting story. That title is going in my hold slot. Pete, forgive me if I'm misrepresenting you, but you had said something about critics not liking the color. I loved it. I wish more "painted" books would approach color like Dean White did. When colorists do the usual bit of turning an object by running a color through it's values, the line gets lost in the darker values. I like this idea of turning an object through varying the temperature of a color. The artists beautiful line-work isn't lost.
X-Men is equally beautiful. However, I have a sense that the story can get bogged down and smothered under the weight of all the varying elements. This will be an issue by issue buy for me.
I had read Fantastic Four before I heard your review. I'm lukewarm on it. The setup reminded me of a Thomas & Buckler (?) story that I read in my youth. Also, Hickman's run was soooooo good that, at least for me, I think there's going to be an inevitable let down. Sure, it's not fair to Fraction, but what can I say. The last few "one and done" issues by Hickman were almost perfect comics.
Yea it was one review - where they said the art on Thor was great but there were too many shadows and the blacks were too heavy. And then they credited the coloring for keeping it from getting too dark. I pointed out that it was quite possible the coloring was adding the shadows - possibly because of the art or maybe it was all on the colorist. I haven't seen the original art so I can't tell. It's akin to Kevin Maguire's art which is very open - and the colorist going in and molding/shaping the shadows/highlights, etc to create muscle tones, etc. Sometimes it's the coloring that adds texture/layer/shadow.
An X-Men First Class observation, new comics, more Marvel Now reviews, analyzing Ditko era Amazing Spider-Man and so much more on this week's episodes!
I LOVE the Kurt Russell/Dexter Riley movies, Joe Flynn as Dean Higgins, Cesar Romero as AJ Arno. classic stuff, I need to get those on DVD
There should be a Medfield College boxed set.
Why isn't Disney licensing those IPs to anyone? I bet the right creators would kick ass on a Dexter Riley, Merlin Jones, or Witch Mountain book!
And now in my head they're all mashing up, and what I'm seeing is AWESOME, you guys.
Before the takeover of Marvel. Disney was toying with the idea of starting a KINGDOM COMICS imprint, which would feature characters from the live action disney films, including folks Dexter Riley. Christian Beranek who wrote Dracula Vs King Arthur a few years back was working on this for a while.
Thank goodness I only steal bits from Wrestlecrap Radio.
Oh, listen, the crickets agree! ^_^
You have heard RD and Blade have a new show starting soon right? I hope it is more like the 2006-2008 era of Wrestlecrap and less like the last few years.

Oh yes, I've heard...and while I know some people didn't much care for the last couple of years, it still made me laugh.

To me the last 2 or 3 years of the show it felt like RD's heart wasn't in it. He said one time he was gonna end the show in 2008 or 2009. But then got a email from someone that was dying from cancer. And he told RD how listening to WCR gave him some much needed laughs. It is around that time ,to me at least,it seemed like RD had "lost his smile".
That's right! I totally forgot about that! I used to make up little cardettes with pictures of characters with the results. Those dinners were the precursor for Matt's Christmas dinner, yes?
You know Pete, these "critic" icons can be funny. Do you realize the majority of your posts have at least 1 'dislike'? It's like someone is deliberately going through and giving you negative feedback regardless of the post. It's weird because this is technically your forum thread.
