Stumbled across Campion the other day, a late 80s British detective series starring Peter Davison as "Albert Campion, born May the 20th, 1900. Name known to be a pseudonym. Education: priviledged. Embarked on an adventurous career, 1929. Justice neatly executed, nothing sordid, deserving cases preferred. Police no object. Business address: 17 Bottle Street, Piccadilly, London W1. Specialist in fairy stories."
That opening monologue pretty much sums up the show - quirky 30s Brit detective with many pseudonyms, moves equally smoothly among the upper crust and the lower criminal classes, talks a lot but never says what it is he's really getting at. In other words, it's pretty awesome.
I just finished watching The Iron Lady -- which, despite Meryl Streep's brilliant performance was still a borrrrrring movie -- and am now about to watch J Edgar. Waiting in the wings: Torchwood!

haha! That was exactly my fear so I've avoided Iron Lady! lol J. Edgar was decent. And Torchwood has some great eps (but totally avoid the recent star miniseries Miracle Day - that pretty much sucked!).

Miracle Dayis, in fact, the Torchwood on my list. I've already seen the first two seasons and I saw the first episode of Miracle Day soon after it was released. So, good or ill, I'm ready for viewing, poor reviews notwithstanding.
Just starting Dowton Abbey. Must admit episode 1 and part of 2 was a bit slow, but finishing episode 3, I'm really getting into it.@tankong
It's become my second favorite show after Game of Thrones. I can't get enough of Downton Abbey.
WARNING!!! Netflix's license on Downton Abbey expires on Saturday 2/9 (at least for the streaming vesion - not sure about the DVD?)! I've had Downton Abbey on my queue for months, meaning to watch it eventually - now I'm hustling to get the 7 eps finished by Saturday. Watched the 1st 2 eps tonight and liked it very much!
Does anyone know if "expiring on Saturday" means it's gone on Saturday? or is Saturday the last day? I'm busy with work commitments Weds and Thurs evening, so if Friday is the last day, I need to watch the remaining 5 eps on Tues & Friday. Having Saturday would make things simpler!

Well, best to keep the expectations low then! lol You did see the 3rd season though, right? The 5 part Children of Earth? That was superb.

Downton is great. Even if you think you're going to hate it because you don't enjoy period dramas focusing on the aristocracy, give it a shot. Not my usual cuppa, but it's such a great show - smart writing, amazing cast, great show all around.

I could swear I've watched something on the day it was shown as expiring. I recall learning very late that Repo Man was expiring on a Friday, and watching it that night.
I could be wrong though, so I would watch it before then to be safe.

I see there's something set to expire on Weds. I'm going to test it them. Although I did read online that many times Netflix will have the renewal in place and it will kick in right as it expires - so that could be the case for the one's expiring on Weds. Will need to make sure it's gone thurs.
btw...So am I the only one who thought it was DowntoWn Abbey, until I finally saw an episode??
Lately I have been watching Bob's Burgers for some reason. Those tangents the kids go off on are hilarious. I would say I have watched a lot of the shows mentioned in this thread...except for the B rate movies and since for some reason I never got into it...Dr. Who. (Steps behind wall to avoid thrown food)
I watched Rebel Without A Cause yesterday. Eh it was good but I wasn't blown away. Plus James Dean really overacts
He does, but there's still something compelling about it. I think he's a little better in East of Eden, or the first half of Giant, but even those have their share of overacting. Unfortunately, his career fell right in that moment of '50s films where over the top method acting was in vogue. Marlon Brando and Paul Newman went through a similar phase, but lived long enough to grow out of it, unlike Dean.
Remember, too, that Dean died young after just 3 films, so he's all unrealized potential, and nothing puffs up a reputation than fantasizing about what someone "coulda been."
Finished off S1 of Dowton Abbey. Anyone know where season 2 can be watched. I can watch S3 on the PBS app. Also, starting and planning to catch up on House of Cards today.
Now that the US Post Office has announced it will cease Saturday deliveries come August (except for packages), I see a sharp decline in my using Netflix. I have no interest in switching to streaming, as I don't see that being a viable alternative in my case. I currently get two discs a week, which usually works out nicely: one for mid-week, one for the weekend. Now, I'll only get one a week, but be paying the same price. I could change up to the next level, which I think was two discs at a time, but I'd be paying more for that. I don't think that's acceptable either. It would seem I either have to accept one disc a week (at the same rate I was paying for two), or not getting Netflix at all.

Can't you just time it differently? If I mail one Monday am I get a replacement by Wed's post. No Saturday mail is going to make some impact but it's not a deal breaker.

Maybe. But right now, I mail one Monday, get one back on Wednesday, mail it back on Thursday, get another on Saturday, which gives me a whole weekend. It's a nice arrangement; I hate to lose it. But I may have to adjust.

@tankong , AFAIK, the only place to see s2 of Downton Abbey is on Amazon Prime. I'm not sure if it's available there yet - but if not, it will be shortly (b/c Netflix's DAbbey license expires tomorrow).

Thanks for the info. I was thinking of getting Amazon Prime for the streaming and free 2 day shipping. Now I am really leaning towards it.
Caught up on House of Cards. Initially was only going to try episode 1, but ended up catching up. Love where the story is going and love the Washington insider politics story telling. I'm sure some of it is dramatized and for entertainment, but I am sure some of what happens really happens in Washington.
