If I remember correctly, Cumberbatch wasn't signed to play the role until sometime around October 2014. Perhaps this was part of the pitch to him from Marvel?
Talk of it being psychedelic is promising. Hopefully they can convey the weirdness of Ditko's portrayal of other dimensions on screen.
Ant-Man's version of the "Quantum universe" (or whatever they renamed the microverse) was very Ditko inspired. That was definitely proof that Ditko's vision can work on the big screen.
"Marvel Studios has hired martial artist/actor Scott Adkins for a mystery role in the upcoming Doctor Strange film, according to TheWrap. The report states that Adkins will have several major fight scenes.
Adkins is an accomplished martial artist who began acting in 2001. He recently appeared in Expendables 2, and starred in three of the Undisputed films."

Could he just be a martial arts expert who teaches Strange how to fight?

I'd be surprised if he is Iron Fist. Both because they seem to be letting you meet the actors in the Netflix shows in their own shows, avoiding any Netflix users feeling that they would have to have seen a given movie as a starting point, and having that bar for entry (and, window-wise, I don't think the Strange movie will be on Netflix by the time IF season 1 goes live).
And, also, and I don't want to presume on his acting talent, I sort of remember him in Bourne, but I haven't seen the Undisputed movies he starred in, but is he someone that has had to handle a lot of text-heavy scenes? Or have his film roles been mostly looking tough and handsome, and kicking ass, and not having that much text to carry (as films usually have shorter scenes and less dialogue than TV)? Again, I don't want to presume, and maybe those that have seen more of his films can know better, but I would be surprised if they hired someone who is not first and foremost an actor in talky things, that has done TV before, and drama before. Because the show is almost certainly going to have more Danny Rand in it than Iron Fist.
It's TV. There is going to be a lot more talking and feeling to do than fighting. (And you can have your stunt double do the hardest fighting, as they did in Daredevil, but you won't have an acting double). Fighting is more expensive.
Again, I could be wrong, maybe this guy is the total package, nailed some talky screen tests, and they are good to go. But I think first and foremost they are going to make sure they have the right actor for Rand, as they have options to make someone look like the right fighter for Iron Fist. But I would be surprised if this is our Netflix Iron Fist.
(I also don't want the Doctor Strange movie to also be the backdoor pilot for Iron FIst. IF will have a whole first season for us to get to know him. Let Strange's movie be Strange's movie, and let the MU appearances be more about using the established characters to let us get to know and understand who Strange is, and his supporting cast are, and what his place-- as well as magic's place-- is in the power structure of the MU. That is enough to do without also introducing and launching IF into his series.)
Nice job on the costume. Although I think that collar could use some more hight! :) I like how the Eye of Agamotto(I assume) has the Sanctum Sanctorum's window design on it.
Skeptical here. I find Cumberbatch to be very good, but not the geek messiah he is made out to be by many. Not sure if the pasty brit can pull off the swarthy wizard.
Well, that "pasty brit" made me forget Khan was a pectorally enhanced old man. I don't know if he's messianic but he sure does a great job in just about everything he does.
I don't remy care for cumberbatch much one way or the other. I know very little of dr strange and Ive never personally been teribly fond of the character or even the sorcery genre. Regardless, I think he looks great... about as near perfect as one could ever hope, and I'm excited for this movie!
"He does cast spells, which in the comics have very sort of tongue-twisty fun names. We don’t want to shy away from that, because that’s what makes Doctor Strange Doctor Strange," said Feige. "He has a Cloak of Levitation that allows him to fly, but he doesn’t fly like Superman or like Thor. It’s almost got a consciousness of its own, this cloak, which, again, gives us a superhero with a red cape -- which we’ve seen a few times -- but allows us to do it in a wholly unique and wholly original way. He can create these mandalas of light that he can use as shields and he can use as sort of weapons. He can create portals that will open before your eyes that he can step through and go to other places around the world. And frankly, even in this film, we’ll only touch upon what a lot of his powers are.”

This is NOT Iron Fist. Danny Rand was blond. And the announcement has been made for the lead.
It's a shame there's not the yellow gloves or sash of the Ditko design, but that's a minor nit pick. Looks good. And the Mordo costume complements the Strange design.
Who's the guy in the yellow? (and the guy in red whose leg can be seen in photos above, but clearer in the other photos from the shoot).

Naturally assumed that the lead female role would be Clea, but Victoria Bentley would almost be better!
