He looks like a giant posed action figure....and chill out on the lens flare, will ya?
I think you nailed it. He looks like a Thunderbirds puppet. It'll be interesting to see him in action but as of right now I think this image portrays an awkward looking Superman.
Not a flattering or impressive picture at all. Looks half photoshop half random convention cosplay dude. When I first scrolled upon it on Facebook i kindve chuckled at it till I realized it was a genuine image.
Without commenting on the John Romita Jr suit, this Supes looks like a cross between a Twilight vampire and a common street thug. This pose, his overall appearance, his unshaven look and his sunken eyes... Definitely makes Supergirl look better.

Which I suspect is what their goal was. I get the feeling they are almost grudgingly bringing Superman into the show (beyond "silhouette" status), so I suppose the thinking would be, the less charismatic Superman is, the less of a chance he will outshine Kara...which would, of course, subvert a century's worth of women's liberation. (just joking on that last line...sort of).
But so did Grant Gustin. Both AS Barry and IN the Flash suit. And you know what? I LOVED that and was enthusiastically proven wrong. Same with several other "looks" and visual interpretations of DC characters on DCTV shows. And each time? They proved me wrong.
At this point, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Give me time to see it in action for a couple of episodes then let's talk.
It's not a very flattering photo, but it is only one photo. Willing to wait and see how he comes off in the actual show...and besides, I'm watching it for his distaff counterpart, not him.

But when it's the FIRST OFFICIAL PHOTO of the actor in costume, one would assume they'd release one that's more flattering to both the actor and the character he's portraying.
Only pro wrestling fans will understand this but...is it just me or does he look like he has the same eye problem as Shawn Michaels?
I don't know the Shawn Michaels thing, but does it have something to do with the fact that Superman appears to be looking east and west at the same time?
It's not bad. I think it's funny that he's shorter than the actor who plays Jimmy Olsen but overall, it doesn't look bad. I love the "S" shield. I'll be curious to see it on my screen.
I've seen several positive comments from people here, and some constructive comments as well as critical comments. I read and welcome them all. A little negative feedback can go a long way, and should be an essential part of the mix. It grabs someone’s attention and guards against complacency and groupthink.
Obviously all that can be commented on is the appearance at this stage, but like comics, that's usually all we get at first. The artwork. While it's clearly too late to get DC to make alterations to this casting choice or to the suit, just accepting it for what it is and never voicing a dislike for something would turn this forum into a praise report and wouldn't really add to the discussion.
That promo pic was pretty weak. No wonder they quickly leaked some set pics.
Somewhat good news: Calista Flockart will still be a recurring guest star on the show’s second season. I guess that means Lynda Carter is cheaper than Calista Flockart.

I only watched a few episodes, but did Flockhart really bring that much to the show? The few scenes I saw with her were very broadly acted...almost caricatured "Big Business Bitch".

Yes, she did. I'm as surprised to make that statement as anyone. Cat Grant became the "fun" part of the show and she easily had the best line in the series (during the Flash crossover episode...you know what it was if you saw it).
