Also, I thought it was clever of whoever cut this Japanese trailer to include that image of Tie-Fighters against the rising sun. Basically, it is their flag, plus TIE FIGHTERS.
Yesterday, I bought my tickets for a 7:00PM 2D showing on the 17th (recently added, hence the reason the tickets were still available.) I already had tickets for a 9:00AM IMAX 3D showing on the 18th. Which I opted to retain. Looks like I'll be seeing it twice in less than a 24hr time span. I feel like a fanboy, again.
I'll probably wind up seeing it sometime in January, or whenever it eventually gets to the second run theaters. For one thing, my work schedule makes it impossible to make any longterm plans in advance and I can't always be sure of having a night off when I can get to the theater. But, for another... I just can't feel the enthusiasm everyone else is feeling, and I can't say why. It's just another movie to me now. It doesn't strike me the way the original SW films did. I'll see them, but... you know.
This explains an aspect of how they're keeping plot details from leaking out. I'm sure this has been standard practice on these sorts of blockbuster franchises, but it never occurred to me.
Looking forward to this, but truthfully, I hope they aren't going to show us another Death Star. Least original decision of Return of the Jedi .
According to this interview with JJ Abrams, the First Order’s Starkiller Base is indeed another Death Star, just upgraded (i.e. more powerful and different than the previous ones seen in the original trilogy)
“It is very much — and it’s acknowledged as such in the movie — apparently another Death Star. But what it’s capable of, how it works, and what the threat is, is far greater than what the Death Star could have done. Starkiller Base is another step forward, technologically speaking, in terms of power.” ~ JJ Abrams
So now my concern is that this is going to basically be an upgrade of the original formula. Maybe this death star/Starkiller blows up suns? Did the Empire not get the hint after having their previous Death Star's destroyed? Also, we have a villain in a mask à la Darth Vader. JJ's Star Trek wasn't very original either, but of course, it was a reboot/remake.
I am hoping, with New Hope, that Abrams is going to do more than just recycle Star Wars' greatest hits. Maybe he will find the right balance between old and new – and deliver a fresh story that pays homage to the originals when it serves the story, but also forges a unique direction for the series going forward. I pray he refrains from excessive lens flares and avoids any time-travel tropes altogether.
Perhaps I'm still smarting from the premature enthusiasm I had from that first Phantom Menace trailer...

Yeah, a new super weapon isn't what I was hoping for. Although I'm sure the general public will think it's cool seeing a new Deathstar like weapon. As for myself, well, I read the EU books and this was tried more than once..."a new super weapon that's more powerful than the Deathstar!"
Here's an impressive fan trailer for the prequels using the theme from Episode VII's recent trailer. This fan decided to approach it by reinforcing and comparing Obi-Wan's origin story to Luke in the first Star Wars movie.
I enjoyed this, but it's weaknesses are the dialogue from Anakin and Padme, and it trailer reminds me of just how many flat, and boring most of the shots in the prequels were, but I still consider this to be a great piece of fan work. Enjoy!
Now that J.J. Abrams is playing in Lucas' sandbox, I couldn't help but wonder what changes we can expect to see in future re-releases of the Star Wars saga. Just don't get me started on the whole Ricardo Montalbán vs. Benedict Cumberbatch debate.
Unless it's just misleading, do you get the feeling Han & Chewie will have bigger roles then Luke & Leia in this one? If so, I feel like Han isn't going to make it to episode IIX.

(I'm not sure how I am expected to care about anything else between now and then.)

Thanks guys.
I've never been so excited to see a Star Wars movie. Heck, the last thing that got me super pumped was Darth Plagueis.
That's pretty cool that they granted his wish.

A cash incentive to keep quiet makes a lot of sense.

That laugh track doesn't help much.

R2-KT, a pink version of the iconic droid R2-D2, was built for and named after Katie Johnson, 10, who received the robo as she was dying of a brain tumor.
