From the "Set Visit" article, this is a bit of a spoiler so forgive me, but it supports my guess of Nathan Fillion as J'son of Spartax:
After spending a little time dodging some of the more specific questions about the film -- Do we meet any of Peter Quill's family members in this film? "Some of them." Specifically his father? "A definite maybe."
Seems like there's very little connection between this Yondu and the comic one, which is too bad.
Agreed. I love the original Guardians, and Yondu is probably my favorite of the group. I had been excited about a Yondu character, but I should have expected this. Oh, well. I am pretending this flick has another title altogether
I like both the original and modern Guardian teams. I'd have loved a nod to Yondu in this movie but I don't think we're getting that with Rooker's character. He's a YINO(Yondu In Name Only)..seriously, why even make him Yondu?
I attended the IMAX 3D sneak peek showing. I have to admit, the 3D accentuated the 17-minutes they showed, and I'm someone who tends to save $ by opting for 2D. This is one, I'm definitely going to have to splurge on come August.
In addition to a 17 minute prison escape scene, we also were shown the following new trailer:
I think it's just a nod to the history of the GotG. I don't even know if he's supposed to be *the* Yondu? Maybe "Yondu" is a very common name over there in Alpha-Centauri, like their version of "Steve" or something.

Still would have loved to see Rooker sporting the big fin
Amusing new "featurette" focusing on Gamora and Drax. A lot of it is "same old, same old" but there are several new bits, some of which are quite amusing:
I had been hoping that the thing on Yondu's head was an "anchor" for the mohawk and that the actual fin would be added in post production. That thing on his head looks like ass.

< sarcasm > In a movie with a talking raccoon and a walking-talking tree I think a blue man with a red fin would just be silly. < /sarcasm >
So, what did you think overall? Posters at other websites seem to have came out of it with much higher expectations for the movie than they had going in.
What did I think "overall". That word is a tad too encompassing for a mere 17 minutes, but I will say that those 17 minutes had enough action, special effects, and tongue & cheek dialog to make me want to see this on opening night and in IMAX 3D no less (not a format I frequently splurge on). Rocket Raccoon looks amazing and I guarantee that in a few months from now he'll be a household name (even if Star-Lord isn't).
In the comments section of the Guardians of the Galaxy Facebook post, fans asked James Gunn for the umpteenth time why Yondu doesn't have the big red fin in Guardians of the Galaxy that he has in Marvel Comics. "Rooker is my friend, but he is clumsy and I don't want him knocking his head off walking through doorways," the director quipped . "I'm in a surreal situation where the biggest disappointment expressed by some fans over the comics-to-movie translation is that Michael Rooker doesn't have a flamboyant and flowing three foot red fin atop his head." Gunn then added, "He does have a fin and it is very awesome it's just very short. I could have done a lot of things but I helped to design the way he looks because I like it better and believe it."
Oh my. I just read a spoiler and I wish I hadn't... it started out innocently enough, but now I cannot "unsee" what I've read.
James Gunn has promised that the movie would contain more Marvel Comics characters than have ever been featured in one feature before. Of course, not all of the characters will be instantly recognizable... but one character in particular...
WARNING: If you consider cameos as spoilers, then you are going to want to stay clear of the rest of this article.
Fact is, now I just want to see this film even more.
