I think it's good that he's only signing on for the Avengers films and no more Iron Man films. That probably means Marvel Studios is starting a new franchise, presumably in 2016, where the next Iron Man would have been scheduled.
I loved me some G-Force/Gatchaman when I was a kid. I woke up earlier on Saturdays than I did on school days just so I could watch it. The trailers I’ve seen so far are encouraging.
I'm surprised no one’s mentioned the J.K. Rowling-scripted Magical Beasts and Where to Find Them movie. It’s set in the Potter-verse (70 years earlier) and revolves around the author of the Hogwarts text book of the same name. Yeah, it’s a bit of a cash grab on the part of the studio, but with Rowling writing it, I’m sure there'll be lots of winks and nods to the books.
I wonder if there will be anywhere close to the same level of excitement the previous films generated.

I'm surprised the news wasn't mentioned here as well. I mentioned the announcement on my tumblr. site, but I neglected to post one here. Sorry about that oversight.

I got the impression that the book is to serve as a foundation for a series of movies.

That’s the impression I got as well. They were pretty vague about it, but I imagine the studio will want to make them for as long as they make money. But I’ve seen so little buzz about it. Granted there’s not even a release date, but I’m very interested to see if the Potter fandom becomes as divided over this as comics fandom did with Man of Steel.
From Wikipedia: Newton Artemis Fido "Newt" Scamander is the fictional author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, born in 1897. According to the "About the Author" section of the book, Scamander became a magizoologist because of his own interest in fabulous beasts and the encouragement of his mother, an enthusiastic Hippogriff breeder. In Hogwarts, he was sorted to Hufflepuff.
After graduating from Hogwarts, Scamander joined the Ministry of Magic in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. His career included a brief stint in the Office of House-elf Relocation, a transfer to the Beast Division, the creation of the Werewolf Register in 1947, the 1965 passage of the Ban on Experimental Breeding, and many research trips for the Dragon Research and Restraint Bureau. His contributions to Magizoology earned him an Order of Merlin, Second Class in 1979.
Now retired, he lives in Dorset with his wife Porpentina and their pet Kneazles: Hoppy, Milly and Mauler. He has a grandson named Rolf, who married Luna Lovegood some time after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
I hope that this means that the movies will be period pieces.
Kind of Indiana Jones with a wand.
I'd really like to see her use the opportunity to explore the Wizarding World's role in WWII.
The same Wikipedia article says it will be set in 1920s New York.
Yeah, the article I read (on IGN, I think) said the movie will start in 1920s New York. I'm sure they'll move beyond that, if not in the first film, then at least in subsequent films.
The Spirit is headed to DVD. No, not Frank Miller's 2008 desecration, it's the 1986 made for television movie starring Sam Jones and a young Nana Visitor. This is a made-to-order item, so if you want it you'll probably need to order it online.

I've seen this. At one time you could purchase homemade dvd's on eBay. It's much better then that thing Miller did. However, that doesn't make it good. It's a notch or two below the Flash television show. I recall liking Jones' Spirit, but the rest of the show is the usual 80's television fare.
All I remember of the 1986 Spirit is Sam Jones being in it, and the cemetery set. My overall memory of it is that was another one of those made-for-TV comic book movies born out of a failed pilot. I'll bet I still have it on a VHS tape, boxed away in my parent's basement.
I'm a bit miffed that they modified the DVD's cover art so that the Spirit appears to be wearing a black suit. In this adaptation, his suit is bright blue. I suspect they're hoping folks will think it's the Frank Miller version, which is a shame, for this made for television '80s movie is a vast improvement over the more recent Miller one. As rebis pointed out, it's a far cry from being "good", but it's watchable and a much better homage to Will Eisner's source material than Miller's version.

I remember this came out right after I discovered Flash Gordon. I was excited Sam Jones was doing more comic stuff. I think I vaguely remember an underground hideout in the cemetery. And that's just about it. It might be terrible but I'd watch it again just to be 13 again for a while.
I just got back from a press screening of The Fifth Estate. I liked it more than I thought I would, but considering the movie features Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch, Doctor Who's Peter Capaldi, Harry Potter's David Thewlis (Remus Lupin), Stanley Tucci, and Laura Linney, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised by how much I enjoyed this film.

Steel vs. the Man of Steel - it could happen.

We may only be half way through, but 2013 is shaping up to be a great year for films. Here's ten of the best, as voted for by Guardian readers

Ms. Rowling certainly isn't cash-hungry.
She probably agreed to it to get them to leave her alone for a while.
Plus, I think she's interested in the challenge of writing a screenplay.
For the record, I have a profound admiration (and a not-insubstantial crush) for Ms. Rowling.
