I'm posting this trailer here in addition to the regular Doctor Who thread, because in case you haven't heard, the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special, "The Day of the Doctor 3-D" will be simulcast in 11 U.S.-based theaters on Nov. 23rd (it will also be broadcast on various BBC stations worldwide). An encore presentation will be shown in over 400 theaters on Monday the 25th. None of the elite eleven theaters were near me, so I'll be seeing it on the 25th. Since it's not often one has an opportunity to catch Doctor Who on the big screen, I figured I'd mention this in the general movie thread.
Studio Ghibli announced a new animated feature. This new film, which is slated for a Summer 2014 release is titled, “Omoide no Maanii” (“When Marnie Was There”) and is based on a novel by English writer Joan G. Robinson. The film is directed by The Secret World of Arrietty’s Hiromasa Yonebayashi.
I'm not actually familiar with that phrase. Tom Bombadil was the only character in LOTR that I liked, if that's what you mean.
A "Bombadile" is a person who can't enjoy an adaptation because they dislike the omission/alteration of favorite details/characters/subplots.
Named for the character Tom Bombadil, whose omission from the Peter Jackson films was bemoaned loudly and frequently by Tolkien purists, I have since taken to apply the term more generally. I originally just used "to Bombadil" as a verb describing the behavior, but have now derived nouns.
The condition of being unable to enjoy an adaptation because one dislikes the omission/alteration of favorite details/characters/subplots is "Bombadilia".
I was less distressed by the omission of Tom Bombadil in the LOTR films than I was with the omission of the Hobbits return to and rescue of Hobbiton, something that drove home one of Tolkien's main points: that events far away could have disastrous effects on you and yours if you don't take action.

That's my moment of Bombadilia as well. The Scouring of the Shire is my favorite part of the Trilogy.

Agreed. It was where the internal changes that had happened over the course of their journey was manifested externally. They were no longer just hobbits, but heroes. Also, evil was going to finally be dealt with instead of ignored and left to fester as it had for so long before.
BTW-I read somewhere that Tolkien had stated at some point that Sam was the real hero of the story. Not that that is important to anyone, but it just confirms what I personally thought after reading the book.

I had not realized until then that Dum-Dum Dugan was played by the same actor who was Robert Quarles on "Justified".
He was also M. Bison, but people don't tend to talk about that.
Which Street Fighter movie was worse? Street Fighter or Legend of Chun-Li? Its a tough call, though any movie that has Chris Klien in it is probably near the bottom...

I have to admit, like the guy voicing Mr. Peabody.
Liked it far more than I expected to.
Looks like it might share the original's cynical sense of humor after all.
At this point, I'd at least buy it for a dollar.

New Muppets Most Wanted Trailer is out
... a film I will never, ever see, no matter what it is, no matter how I'm threatened, no matter what they do to me.

Man are the Bombadiles gonna hate this one.

Flying Squad leader in Minority Report.
Definitely remembered him in BoB. Just didn't recognize him as Dum-Dum.
