As a comic reader, I'm good with sitting back and letting the series tell the story it wants to tell - because my wife, who only has the Nolan movies to base things on - is really enjoying the show. More than me at times. Yup - second episode was a slower episode. But the overall story is still interesting. It's like watching the last breath of a great city before things go super downhill in mob wars and corruption, etc. I thought for sure we would get half a season or more of Penguin hiding and not confronting Gordon again - but we got it in the cliffhanger! That has me interested in how it'll play out with Gordon knowing he's alive. Again - we know the Penguin (and others) has to be around forever, but maybe regular viewers might not have that idea in their heads. To them, everyone might be expendable and the story is unknown. That's why I think it's smart they called it Gotham. Because it isn't GCPD. And it isn't Gordon. It's Gotham. I'm in! Haha.
Pretty good episode. Nice reference to the Arkham City Batman game. And The Penguin continues to be the best thing on this show I knew he hired those guy's to steal the money.
And least favorite subplot continues to Jim and Barbara the problem I have with a lot of these shows romances is if they would simply tell the truth about stuff to each other than like 99% of problems would be solved.

You just solved 80% of relationship issues in the real world as well.
Gotham is much better than I thought it would be. I'm surprise at how well Cobblepot's character meshes into the story and it somehow feels right that he's much older than Bruce. However, I don't like that Nygma and Dent are 10 to 15 years older than Bruce. I don't like Smith's character (btw, she really looks old. I didn't recognize her).
My biggest problem with Gotham is that I catch myself staring at Camren Bicondova. SHE'S 15 FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!

I KNOW!
Btw. It's Sunday afternoon and I'm at work trying to get some BOM's done so that they're ready for a review on Monday morning. I fire up CGS and see the NBC "To Catch a Predator" guy.
i'm liking the show. Not loving it though. It's just very middle-of-the-road for me. I do like Gordon but I really dig the actor who plays Penguin. He is the best part of the show to me. I also very much like Bullock and I like the actor who plays him although I just don't see how a cop that dirty is going to come around to Gordon's thinking. Also, is it me or do Montoya and Allen really feel like one-note characters. I hope they get developed soon.
Every time I watch this all I can think is why can't they just keep showing us Bruce and Alfred?!?! Why can't that be the show?! That's what it should be. That's what we want. Instead of 1-2 scenes of that then 45min of penguin, Gordon, mobsters and fish freaking moony. Imagine if it were the reverse. Make the main story the most compelling element of it all, then have the icing be the surprisingly good penguin and Gordon/bullock stuff. Oh well.
I'm digging the Fall of Camelot type story. We've never really seen this played out on TV. Of all the new comic shows (not including this week's Constantine) it's the one my wife enjoys the most. Mostly because of the ensemble cast, something that would take a back seat to a developing Batman. Which we're getting anyway. So for a show called Gotham, they are getting it right for the mass audience. For the Bruce part of it, I like that, at least for now, they are doing more of the origin story that I think existed before the Frank Miller stuff. In that he was self trained.
I don't even want to date her (although that would be incredible) I just want a single kiss. Yeah, I'm creepy. Get over it. #demlipsdoe
^That all sounds horrible without face to face context and...you know, tone and inflection. I'm just going to go with, "She is ABSOLUTELY captivating and gorgeous. I IMMEDIATELY paused the show to go look up who the actress was. Stunning."

Exact opposite. I thought the show would have been better if Bruce disappeared after the first ep. What's the point? We know he's not going to be Batman anytime soon. Give me more, good GCPD stuff, and less of the start of a 7 year tease. Not that I've been watching. So maybe the Bruce/Alfred stuff has become more compelling.

I gotta say I'm surprised we're seeing this much of Bruce and Alfred. I never thought this show was about Bruce Wayne. It's about Gotham and the GCPD and the corrupt people who run it. I thought it was about how one good cop takes a stand against the corrupt officials and tries to turn things around. I had always thought Bruce would be a very small supporting character at best.

Then I remembered that there's a precedent for Gordon cheating in the comics.
I still don't want it to happen here in this show, though.

Also, with Harvey Dent soon to come to Gotham did anyone see the great new cover by Alex Ross for the lost 1966 episode issue?
